Community First Step is now Fair Foundations.
While our name and look have changed, our purpose hasn’t. For more than 50 years, we have walked alongside the Fairfield and Greater Western Sydney communities, helping people find their place and forge a fair future.
Our roots run deep
Born from the heart of the Fairfield community in 1973, our organisation was founded by the people, for the people. What began as a safe landing place for new migrants and refugees has grown into a trusted organisation with deep roots and strong connections.
Over the decades, our name has changed, but our role in the community has remained the same: breaking down barriers, creating opportunities, and standing with people when they need it most.
Why we rebranded
Our previous name no longer captured the breadth of who we are or the difference we create today. Fair Foundations signals a new chapter, one that stays true to our roots while positioning us to respond to evolving community needs with strength and relevance.
This change is also part of our future direction. Our Strategic Plan 2025–2030 commits us to Elevating Our Presence, and strengthening our brand identity is part of this – purposefully building our profile so we can effectively deliver on our vision of empowering our communities more widely.
Our new name, Fair Foundations, reflects both our heritage and our purpose. Fair speaks to equity, justice, and our Fairfield roots, while Foundations conveys strength, stability, and the solid ground on which everyone can build a good life. Together, the two capture our commitment to creating fairer futures.
What’s new
Alongside our new name, we’ve introduced a fresh look that’s modern, more inclusive, and reflects a stronger sense of community and belonging.
Our photography captures the sense of community and belonging beautifully by focusing on people and place. Much of this imagery is drawn directly from the places and people in Fairfield and Greater Western Sydney. By centring people and place, our photos reflect the everyday life of the communities we walk alongside, creating an identity that is authentic, grounded, and deeply connected.
We’ve also introduced a handwritten language line reflecting different languages spoken in our community – Arabic, Assyrian, Vietnamese, Chinese, English – as a way to connect with and reflect our highly diverse communities.
At the heart of our new logo is the equals sign (=), created by transforming the two “F”s of Fair Foundations. This simple but powerful symbol represents fairness, equity, and justice, values that guide our work. By embedding this symbol directly into our name, the logo becomes more than a design; it’s a constant reminder of the fairer futures we are working to build.
What hasn’t changed
What hasn’t changed is our purpose: to help people find their place and forge a fair future. Fairfield and Greater Western Sydney remain among some of the most disadvantaged areas in Australia, and every day we are working to create stronger communities and fulfilling lives by disrupting this cycle of disadvantage head on, driven by our love for humanity and social justice.
Looking ahead
Our new identity honours our past and carries us forward with strength and clarity.
Our name has changed, but our heart and purpose remain the same.
