Work Development Orders

At Fair Foundations, we’re committed to breaking down barriers and creating fairer opportunities for people.

Through the Work and Development Order (WDO) program, we support individuals to take positive steps forward while easing financial pressure.

A WDO gives eligible people the opportunity to reduce their NSW fines by taking part in approved activities, instead of paying the fine directly. This can be a helpful pathway if you’re facing financial hardship or other challenges that make it difficult to pay.

Fair Foundations is an approved sponsor for the program in New South Wales.

Here’s how we can support you

If you are eligible, our team can assess your situation and work with you to develop a personalised activity plan. Activities may include:

  • Digital skills training
  • English conversation classes
  • Sewing or creative workshops
  • Social connection programs

Volunteer opportunities, such as supporting our Emergency Food Relief program and other group activities, or young people aged under 24 can assist at our Youth Drop-in centre.

Who is eligible for a WDO?

You may be eligible if you meet at least one of the following:

  • Experiencing serious financial hardship (e.g. relying on Centrelink or unable to meet basic living costs)
  • Living with a mental health condition
  • Living with an intellectual or cognitive disability
  • Experiencing homelessness
  • Struggling with alcohol or substance use
  • Under 18 years of age

Eligibility is assessed by a Fair Foundations team member. You’ll typically need to provide supporting documents such as a Centrelink statement or a medical letter. Once approved, you can start reducing your fines by taking part in any of the outlined activities.

Refer Someone
